Erwlon Caravan Park Re-Opening 13th July 2020!

We are pleased to announce that Erwlon Caravan Park will be re-opening on the 13th July for all Seasonal Pitches, Touring Caravans, Motorhomes and Campervans providing they have their own on-board shower, WC and kitchen facilities.

Please note that whilst we can provide access to water and electricity, our play area, award winning utility block and our camping kitchen will not be available and clients will have to use their on board facilities. The waste disposal point will be available under new measures.

Riverside Pods Re-Open on the 13th July 2020

We hope that you and your families have been keeping well and safe over the last few months.

Following the recent announcement by the Welsh Government to re-open the tourism trade in Wales from the 13 ^th July, we’re getting in touch to confirm that the Riverside Pods and Erwlon Caravan Park will re-open from Monday 13 ^TH JULY 2020 .

This date is however conditional on any other guidance announced by the Welsh Government. We are keeping a close eye on developments as the First Minister has indicated that he will now make weekly announcements on easing lockdown in Wales.

As all of our pods are self-contained with cooking facilities and en-suite bathrooms, we are able to open from the 13 ^th July. Therefore we are initially offering weekend bookings online, however if you wish to stay during the week or for a whole week, please do contact us directly.

We are hopeful that Welsh Government will confirm this week that we will be able to reopen for touring caravans and motorcaravans that (must) have their own facilities.

Erwlon Caravan Park is now Fully Open!

We are pleased to announce that Erwlon Caravan Park is now open to all guests visiting Carmarthenshire.

From the most recent Welsh Government announcements, Erwlon has re-opened its shared facilities, therefore we can accommodate all parties whether they have their own facilities or not.

Please note that the facilities, play area, camping kitchen and waste disposal point will be available under new measures.

The Tour of Britain is Coming to Llandovery

Plan your Tour of Britain spectating

With the countdown well and truly on for the famous Tour of Britain coming to Carmarthenshire and Llandovery on the 2nd of September we wanted to give you a run through of everything you need to know to make sure you're out to support Tour de France winner Geraint Thomas (and others of course) as they speed through our wonderful countryside.

The Grand Depart of the Tour of Britain starts in Pembrey Country Park with Stage 1 of the tour then taking riders through Carmarthenshire passing spots such as Kidwelly, Carmarthen, Ffairfach, Bethlehem, Llangadog and Llandovery, before moving onto the remainder of the stage and finishing a massive 175km of a day in Newport.

During the weekend there are so many ways to get involved and share the experience and here's just some of our recommendations.

Saturday 1st of September

The day before the Grand Depart why not head down to Pembrey Country Park to soak in the atmosphere. At 5pm there will be a live Q&A with the riders on the big screen followed by live entertainment.

Sunday the 2nd of September

The day of the Grand Depart, Llandovery is the place to be and you can see the full stage timetable and when you can expect riders through the town here .

However you can make a day of it and join in with the Llandovery Fun Day between 10-4pm. With cycling routes and events, road and cycling safety stalls, bicycle competitions, food, drink and stalls in the Market Square then the town will be a hive of activity for this grand occasion. The main event and the arrival of the Tour of Britain riders heading through the town will take part at approximately 12.40pm and here's your chance to watch the sprint section through Llandovery.

5 Unmissable Things to do in the Brecon Beacons

The park covers a region of 520 square miles, including four mountain ranges and 268 ancient monuments, so there are always plenty of things to do in the Brecon Beacons.

#1 Waterfall Country

One of the most popular areas in the Brecon Beacons, Waterfall Country or Gwlad y Sgydau in Welsh, is a magical and peaceful place full of life and sound where the trickle and rush of water mingles with the rustling of the trees and the chatter of birds. Located in the Neath Valley, the area is part of the Fforest Fawr massif with steep tree-lined gorges and rocky limestone outcrops dramatically framing the famed waterfalls and making for an interesting hike for all levels. A visit to the region must include a trip to the famous Sgwd-y-Eira, the Snow Waterfall, where visitors can enjoy the unique experience of walking behind its curtain along a narrow natural path in the rock.

There are many ways to explore Waterfall country with many walking trails winding through the beautiful forest landscape. There are 25 miles of official footpaths and even an audioguide which can be downloaded to learn more about the flora and fauna. You can even discover the abandoned remains of the area’s industrial past including mines, quarries, kilns and even a gunpowder factory! For the more adventurous or those looking for an outdoor challenge why not try a hand at gorge-walking, caving at Porth-yr-Ogof caves or canoeing or kayaking in one of Wales’ best locations for whitewater activities.

#2 Geocaching

Looking for an old fashioned adventure in the great outdoors? How about a treasure hunt? Geocaching is the perfect way to explore new areas with unexpected and ingenious caches hidden all over the landscape just waiting to be found. There are over 180 geocaches in the Brecon Beacons national park located in spectacular and interesting places, such as the site of a crashed WWII bomber. You can combine your hunt with orienteering course and improve bushcraft and survival skills.

Geocaches can range from small containers to larger old ammunition boxes containing geoswag (think small toys and random objects rather than gold and jewels) and a logbook. It is the geocacher’s task to seek out the geocaches using GPS through an app on a mobile device or even an Ordanance Service map and a compass. You can take the swag but only if you replace it with something of equal value for someone else to find and make sure to sign the logbook to prove you found the cache. It is an exciting activity and fun for all the family! How many you can find?

#3 The Skirrid Mountain Inn

Sat atop a previously shivering mountain (hence the name), the Skirrid Mountain Inn is one of the most haunted pubs in the UK and has a fascinating history. The building has stood for over 900 years, accommodating travelers making their way through the dramatic and often unforgiving landscape of the Brecon Beacons. It still serves this function today with its 3 visitor bedrooms, its wood panelled restaurant offering home cooked meals and its cosy fireplaces.
The inn is at the centre of local legends and folklore and during its long history is has seen its fair share of grisly events. Most of the hauntings associated with the site relate to its use as a courtroom and execution place. Convicts were sentenced in the building and then subsequently hung from an oaken beam, that can still be seen today. The spirits of these restless convicts are said to wander the building lamenting their fate. Do you dare to stay the night?

#4 Brecon Mountain Railway

Sit back and enjoy a relaxed journey through the Brecon Beacons on the Brecon Mountain Railway, which travels 3 miles from Pant, just north of Merthyr Tydfil, to the heights of Torpantau at 1313 feet (400m) above sea level. The vintage steam train takes travellers along the route of the original Brecon and Merthyr Railway which was built in 1859, and offers spectacular views as it passes along the length of the Taf Fechan Reservoir and climbs further into the mountains.

Want to know more about the history of this beautiful railway? A 25 minute stop at Pontsticill gives passengers the opportunity to discover the history of the line and those who built it at the Steam Museum. Alternatively visitors can take a walk along the picturesque Taf Fechan Reservoir or enjoy a tipple with a magnificent view at the Lakeside Cafe.

#5 Llandovery Sheep Festival

Taking place in September each year (22nd - 23rd September in 2018) the Llandovery Sheep Festival is a celebration of all things sheep! Taking place in the ancient drovers town of Llandovery you can enjoy Viking camp with Viking warriors and re-enactment battles, Wool Crafts, Craft Courses, Sheep Dog trials, food, entertainment, music, cookery demonstrations and more.

As well as enjoying the festival this is a great opportunity to explore the town of Llandovery and take in the atmosphere of this traditional market town.

Erwlon Named Carmarthenshire's Best Caravan, Camping and Glamping Site of the Year

We have some exciting news to share with you. At the recent Carmarthenshire Tourism Awards we were delighted to be announced the winners of the Best Caravan, Camping and Glamping Site of the Year in Carmarthenshire. Judged by an independent panel of judges who visited us at Erwlon it was such an honour to receive the award.

With our new Riverside pods development having taken place recently and also our new camp kitchen area, it's great to be recognised for our developments and improvements at Erwlon. Our award will be on display at Erwlon and we would like to thank Carmarthenshire Tourism Association for organising the awards and to all our customers for their continued support.

33rd World Bog Snorkelling Championships, held annually in Llanwrtyd Wells, an event that Lonely Planet described as one of the top 50 “must do” things from around the world in 2014. Hundreds of participants from around the world and plenty of spectators are expected once again.

Myddfai Trading Company is a social enterprise which supports adults with learning difficulties through creating the wonderful toiletries which we supply in our bathrooms, shower rooms and changing facilities on site at Erwlon.

From Sea Breeze hand wash to body lotions enjoy the luxury products during your stay. And if you want to purchase some to take home with you then a visit to Myddfai only a few miles away is a definite trip during your stay.

Myddfai Community Centre and Visitor Centre houses a cafe and shop and the shop is not only stocked full of Myddfai Trading Company goods but also supports local artists and crafts which are on sale. This weekend at the Garden – Food Fair!

There’s no better way to cheer up the very long, grey month of January than a food fair, and there’ll be a mouth-watering array of food and drink from West Wales producers in Lord Foster’s Great Glasshouse on Saturday and Sunday, January 20-21.
